Overclocking cheap processors E6600 (2.4Ghz)

Many more people have done this already, but just to chime in. I downloaded the latest BIOS for my 680i EVGA motherboard and that went well and the update manages overclocking much better. I then: Linked / Synced and took the FBS Quad to 1333 (baby steps) and the clock went to 3Ghz. The Windows Vista test that rates your system went from a 5.3 (out of 6) to a 5.6 I then ran 3D Mark 06 Gamer edition (I bought it) and the only difference was the NVIDIA drivers were a .13 release as opposed to a .12 release.

Screen shots of the 3D mark scores below:I will be running this setup for a while, full game testing etc, BEFORE I bump it up more. My goal is to get it to 3.2Ghz and leave it alone.

2.4 (stock)

3Ghz (slight overclock)

Sandisk Cruzer 8GB good price and a tip for ya

Nice little storage device and a GREAT PRICE on Amazon (50.00 at Bestbuy).

One thing to note, it comes with software like many other brands, from U3 and its NOT really something most will want.  You cant remove it without in UNSTALLER from the U3 company.  The unistaller works only on XP and 2000 but will nuke the drive and make it just a USB drive.  Also I tried using a Mac and the Disk Utility and format it, even repartition it but the U3 section would not go away.

U3 uninstaller can be found here.  Answer 1 question (no email address neeeded) and you get the uninstaller.

In my opinion the uninstaller should have been on the drive already.  No one like it when someone forces some new app on you.

Amazon takes a stand to eliminate wasteful, hard-to-open gadget packaging

This is direct from Engadget

"Come on folks, say it in unison with us: "Finally!" At long last, a company with a little clout has stood up and questioned the necessity of those ridiculous hard plastic containers that hold minuscule flash cards and the like (along with plastic twist-ties), and better still, it’s already doing something about it.

Beginning today, consumers who are tired of borrowing the fire department’s Jaws of Life to rescue their new USB drive can opt for products in Amazon’s "Frustration-Free Packaging," which utilizes streamlined packaging that often includes recyclable cardboard.

19 products from the likes of Fisher-Price, Mattel, Microsoft and Transcend are currently available in the new containers, and the firm’s CEO has a vision of offering its "entire catalog of products in Frustration-Free Packaging" within a few years. Hey, everyone else in the gadget world — care to hop on a meaningful bandwagon for once?"

PS3 2.5 update (highlights)

Ran the update and I will say the Flash 9 support is great.  Your Tube, Hulu, etc. work great.  Browsing is also faster.  The Auto power down features for the system and/or the controllers is nice.  I set mine to shut off the system in an hour if left on.  The BD/DVD settings are now called "Video Settings" which is simplier for most I guess.  Play station Store has some subtle changes, like a preview popup before you click the store icon.

Chat app. for iPhone that delivers

[UPDATE]

Landscape chatting works great.  You can hide the keyboard to easily view and scroll through chat.  Also you can email your chat log to yourself or the other person, or anyone else.  Works very fast.  You can set audible queue for incoming just like the desktop client’s and if you lock your phone during a chat, when you unlock it, it goes right back to your chat.

The texting fee AT&T charges may be a reason to consider some sort of chat application for your iPhone, but the trick is which one?   AOL has an app but its not as solid as you might think, which is odd since they were instrumental in chats acceptance.

If your like me, you have 1 or 2 accounts and between your friends and co-workers you need something that works with all of them.  I did some digging, Review reading, and checking of privacy policies and came up with an option that I bought, and use.

beejive"Beejive is a privately held company specializing in the development and marketing of software for mobile devices. Founded in 2006, Beejive (pronounced \bē-hīv\) strives to become the world’s premier developer of fast, reliable, and easy-to-use mobile software.

BeejiveIM, the initial offering from Beejive’s product portfolio, is a multi-protocol instant messaging client that connects the mobile user to the major instant messaging networks."

^ The above is from the company’s "About" page and I thought better to quote then paraphrase.  Many of these FREE apps pass all the data through their servers, and so you are sending them, often without any encryption access to all your accounts, and with something like Gmail (GTalk) that is a LOT of info.  beejive’s privacy policy states:

"1. Information We Collect

We do not collect or store any of your instant message ("IM") account information, such as your user name and password, messages, or contact lists, except that we temporarily store your instant messages solely in order to complete the instant message communication (for example, in response to a dropped call); however after the communication is complete the instant message is deleted from the Beejive system. We also collect the following information: "

So with that info digested I decided to buy the app.  It was  $15.99, which might be a lot to some, but for me, if the app works, is fast, easy to use, then its worth it, so I don’t have to spend more time fooking with it, or sourcing another app.  If you value your time, and need a chat app, then I recommend it.

They make it for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and the iPhone, so they have a lot of experience in the relm of mobile chat.  Also the BlackBerry is $19.95 for what its worth.
