“Larrabee” graphics chip by Intel

All of us run a separate video card but there is a push by AMD and Intel to change the game and have intergrated chips compete to some degree with dedicated cards.  Today Intel announced some detail on their new platform and their approach is a bit unique.

2009 might end up being one of the most significant hardware shifts for gaming in a long time.

Intel’s Larrabee will be based on the universal Intel x86 architecture and will be a stand alone chip.

Larry Seiler, a senior principal engineer in Intel’s Visual Computing Group said, "A key characteristic of this vector processor is a property we call being vector complete…You can run 16 pixels in parallel, 16 vertices in parallel, or 16 more general program indications in parallel."
