I will say I am biased to shooters on the PC over a console. But in the interest of a newer game engine testing I downloaded the demo of Battlefield Bad Company for the PS3 yesterday. I played it for a while to see the good and the bad of the game engine over gameplay since I do not like shooters for consoles.
The Good:
- Updated game engine is beautiful. Level of detail is 10x BF2142
- A more realistic feel of physics. You can drive a huge truck and run a tress over. (nothing worth in BF2142 being taken down by a @*&#$%*@ light pole while fliying.
- Destructible buildings was an amazing dynamic and will be huge if/when BF3 ever makes it out
- Viewable distance was excellent
The Bad:
- The FOV was even less than BF2142 on the PC, and makes you fell very tunnel vision. Im playing in HD (not sure if the demo is actually 1920×1200) but I think you should be able to see equivalent to human vision. There is NO reason to have it be less. If the engine is so much better then let me SEE IT.
Not much of a review really of the game, just a PC gamer’s perspective on the engine, which could really make the BF experience BIGGER and deepen the suspicion of disbelief factor and make for a "long-time-playing" experience with the next PC BF game.
