How to enable “Widescreen Mode” in BF2142 Patch1.5

Being on a 16:10 monitor myself I was anxious to try this out but found no resolution option in the vdieo pull down other than the 4:3 that had been there.  Just found out its considered a "beta" option and CAN be enabled.  The following information is from the EA support site.

*Confirmation this works.  Please note, you need a space in the target field and it should look like this…

after the .exe" +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1

What does the difference look like?  You know DICE said they never added widescreen because it would be an advantage, nevermind games as old as Quake/SOF2/UT all allowed you to change your FOV which give you a wider field of view.  I ALWAYS hated the narrow FOV in the BF games as its not even equivlent to human vision which around a FOV of 50mm on a 35mm camera.

Well, it looks like you DO get more information in the foreground, but they make the center view object appear further away.  Kind of a trade off I’m guessing.  I’ll take it.

Here is what the difference looks like:

QUESTION

How do I enable widescreen mode after installing update 1.5 for Battlefield 2142?

Answer

While Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50 adds widescreen functionality, it is not available by default. Widescreen mode is currently a beta feature and has some minor graphical issues regarding the weapons in game, however these do not affect gameplay. If you would like to activate Widescreen functionality please use the following steps:

  1. Locate your Battlefield 2142 shortcut
  2. Right-Click and select Properties
  3. At the end of the Target line you should see +fullscreen 1
  4. After this add +widescreen 1
  5. You will now have widescreen resolutions available in Video options in the front end

Note: By doing this you accept that there will be some minor graphical issues in your game and these should not be raised as an issue.
